Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide fluid rotary machines in which the smallest vibrations may be absorbed or the anti-vibration effect improved by forming a metal layer over at least 15% of the fluid contacting surfaces in the vibration-generaling portions.
CONSTITUTION: In the proposed fluid rotary machine, for example, a centrifugal pump usually made of cast steel and having a mouth of 150mm in diameter and a discharge volume of 2m3/min of fluids, about 80% of the fluid contacting surfaces within an inlet cover and a main case are treated with shot blasting to be roughtened. Thereupon, molten molybdenum material is applied over the roughened surfaces to form a layer 0.5mm thick as the primer. Overlaying the molybdenum layer another layer about 2.0mm thick of 13% chrome-stainless steel is similarly formed. It is evidently noticed that the pumps with the casings thus treated produce less vibrations and consequently reduce the occurrence of noises, compared to those consisting only and entirely of 13% chrome-stainless steel.
