Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-contrast image by setting the threshold level based on the density level featuring the highest emerging frequency among the density levels with every picture element and thus deleting the signals lower than the threshold level as the noise.
CONSTITUTION: The picture signals obtained by scanning with every picture element are converted into the digital signals via A/D converter 1, and density level M of the highest frequency within the picture element region around notice point X is detected and memorized by adder 2 and memory 3 and according to the output signal of the digital signal. Then level M is compared for decision with the prescribed value via comparator 4 and by each output of the density level read out through the adder, and an operation is carried out at operator 5 according to the comparsion output in order to calculate the optimum threshold level. After this, the signal components lower than the threshold level are eliminated among the output signals of converter 1 to obtain the picture signals higher than the threshold level. With the picture signal, the plotter or the like is driven. In such way, the picture free from the noise can be reproduced.
