Abstract

PURPOSE: To solidify impregnated varnish without flowing out, eliminate the creeping dischage on a secondary coil and reduce the entire size of an ignition coil, by interposing varnish stoppers between the seccondary coil and the flanges of a coil bobbin.
CONSTITUTION: Varnish stoppers 19, 19' made of spongy resin, soft paper, cloth or the like are interposed between a secondary coil 14 and the flanges 12B, 12B' of a coil bobbin 12. The flange 12B is integrated with the bobbin 12. The other flange 12B' is fixed on an end of a cylindrical part 12C of the bobbin 12 after coil 14 is fitted in the cylindrical part 12C. An ignition coil 11 is thus manufactured. The ignition coil is put into a varnish impregnation vessel so that a thermosetting varnish V is inpregnated into the ignition coil 11 under reduced pressure. After the impregnated varnish is thermally solidified, the ignition coil is inserted into a mold 21 so that the coil is coated with a molding layer 22 of synthetic resin or the like.
