Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain esters or carboxylic acids through safe operation with formation of virtually no by-products by catalytically electrode-oxidizing primary alcohol or aldehyde in the presence of I2 (compound).
CONSTITUTION: Primary alcohol or aldehyde is catalytically electrode-oxidized at oridinary temperature or under heating through the use of Pt or C for electrodes in the presence of I2 (compound) of about 0.01W0.5mol based on 1mol of primary alchol (e.g., n-hexanol) or aldehyde (e.g., CH3CHO) being raw material. This yields, e.g., n-hexyl hexanoate through the simple operation.
