Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable removal of parts containing welding defects, by enlarging the gap between thick wall materal and thin wall material, when connecting them by partial penetration welding.
CONSTITUTION: After fitting a cylindrical object 1 which is a thin wall material to a work piece 4 which is a thick wall material, a gap 5 is machined to a slightly large size so that the welding start end may be finished sufficiently. It is probable that the thin wall material 1 may be inclined due to positional change of welding rod in the circumferential direction when welding. In order to prevent such welding deformation, at least one ring spring 7 is placed in the gap 5. When inserting this spring, the pad 8 provided in the thin wall material 1 is matched with the spring key groove 9, and after inserting, a tool is put in a hole for operation 10 to shift the groove 9, so that dropping of the spring may be prevented. After welding, the spring is pulled out in the reverse procedure of the method above, and the deposited metal part in a root part 3, which presents a shape likely to cause stress concentration, is cut off by grinding or other means. Yet, since the gap width is large, an inspection instrument may be inserted in the welding start end part.
