Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable measurement of infinitesimal changes of resistance and capacitance of an ultralow impedance by electrostatically coupling the output of a high frequency power supply to a parallel turning circuits and applying the outputs of the tuning circuits through an inductance and a variable capacitance to measuring and compensating specimens.
CONSTITUTION: Parallel tuning circuits L1-C1V-C1-C2, L1'-C1V'-C1'-C2' having equal constants are electrostatically coupled through infinitesimal capacitances CO1, CO1' to the high voltage side terminal of the output tank circuit LO-RO-CO of a high frequency power supply OSC. Measuring specimens RX, CX and compensating specimens RX', CX' are connected through series circuit of an inductance L1 and a variable capacitance in parallel with capacitances C2, C2' in a series connecting circuit of capacitances C1, C2, C1', C2' forming part of the tuning circuit. When the values of the circuit elements are so set as to satisfy the special condition, the loss indicator VgR and the indicator of a phase discriminator VgC are maximized with respect to the infinitesimal changes ΔRX/RX and ΔCX/CX of the resistance and capacitance to thereby obtain the values.
