Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure the operation of a valve by controlling pressurized oil supplied to a pressure chamber formed behind a plunger provided for a rocker arm at its fulcrum, point of force application or acting point to stop the operation of the valve.
CONSTITUTION: A rocker arm 10 comprises an oil path 13, a change-over valve chamber 14 and a cylinder 15. The change-over valve chamber 14 is connected to the upper end of the cylinder 15 through an oil path 17 and a return oil path 18. The cylinder 15 has an opening facing the upper end of the stem 27 of a suction valve 1 and provided with a plunger 30 which is in contact with and urged by a spring 32 against the upper end of the valve stem 27. The oil path 13 is connected to a lubricating oil pump 39 through the hollow 57 of a rocker shaft 12 and a valve 43 provided for a diaphragm 45 operated by the negative pressure of a manifold.
