Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the sound casting having less defects by substituting the atmosphere in a rotary mold with an inert gas atmosphere in performing centrifugal casting.
CONSTITUTION: Shutters 6, 7 are provided by leaving a spacing of about 15W30mm between the sand mold parts 2, 2' in both openings of a mold 1. The shutters 6, 7 are both of disc-form of hollow inside made of steel plates, and are provided with nozzle parts 11 filled with (porous) refractory material having voids protrusively over the entire circumference on the side face opposing to the rotating sand molds 2, 2'. E.g., an inert gas such as argon is fed through the feed pipings 8, 9 communicated to the devices 6, 7. The inert gas is spouted toward the sand mold parts 2, 2' surfaces from the nozzle parts 11 to form an inert gas flow curtain 16, thereby shutting off the communication between the inside and outside in the openings of the mold. As a result, all the problems occuring in the oxidation of pouring materials in centrifugal casting are solved.
