Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide high thermal fatigue resistance to a stainless steel flat wire for an oil ring by cold working stainless steel followed by soln. heat treatment at a specified temp. and cold working. CONSTITUTION:Stainless steel is cold rolled at a working rate of 20% or more and soln.-heat-treated at 950-1050 deg.C to dissolve precipitated carbide as well as to induce recrystallization, thus forming an even structure. The steel is then cold worked again at a working rate of 3-10% to introduce dislocation into the structure. By this treatment a stainless steel flat wire for an oil ring is obtd. This wire is excellent in rigidity, tensile strength, elongation, etc. and has a high dislocation density structure well satisfying characteristics as a straining material.
