Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent iron loss of an electrical steel sheet from increasing owing to a temp. rise after heat treatment by carrying out the treatment in two processes of high and low temps. CONSTITUTION:An electrical steel sheet is heated and held at 650-850 deg.C in a weakly oxidizing atmosphere or a nitrogen-hydrogen mixed gas atmosphere to make the grains coarse as well as to relieve the punching strain of the sheet, thus forming the foundation for enhancing the magnetic characteristics of the sheet. The sheet is then cooled and held at 300-500 deg.C in the same atmosphere to precipitate unstable free carbon at the grain boundaries, followed by cooling to room temp. By this method iron loss of the sheet due to aging can be reduced without deteriorating the magnetic characteristics.
