Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the distance from an object while discriminating the distance from that from a halfway obstable, by using signals of different frequency, determining the ratio between the maximum values of received wave outputs and indicating the ratio. CONSTITUTION:A signal of such frequency that reflected waves from obstacles 41-4j are few and another signal of such frequency that the reflected waves from the obstacles are numerous are produced by oscillators 51, 52. The two signals are sequentially switched by a change-over unit 6 and then converted into modulated pulses by a pulse modulator 7. An ultrasonic wave transmitter receiver 2 is driven by the modulated pulses through a power amplifier 8 and a transmission/reception switch 9 to emit ultrasonic pulses to a region 3. The waves reflected on the obstacles 41-4j are received by the transmitter receiver 2, the output of which is passed through the switch 9 and then amplified by an amplifier 10. Only signals of presscribed frequencies are then picked out by a filter 11 and stored in a memory 12. The ratio between the maximum values of the received wave forms of the stored signals of frequencies f1, f2 is determined by a calculator 13 so that the frequency f2 is used as a reference. As a result, the form of waves reflected on each obstacle is indicated on a display unit 14 in a much smaller size than that of waves reflected on the object 1. If the other frequency f1 is used as a reference, the form of waves reflected on each obstacle is indicated on the display unit in a much larger size than that of waves reflected on the object.
