PURPOSE:To easily improve the reliability by making the light receiving surface of a smoke detecting light receiver more reluctant to be contaminated than the light receiving surface of a compensating light receiver. CONSTITUTION:The length l1 of the hood 9 of a smoke detecting light receiver, which is operative to receive the light from a light source 1 through reflecting mirrors 5 and 6 arranged to face a smoke sensing space D, is made larger than the length l2 of the hood 9 of a compensating light receiver 2 which is arranged in the vicinity of the light source 1. Thus, if the receivers 2 and 3 and the mirrors 5 and 6, which are arranged substantially in the same atmosphere, are left for a long time period so that they are contaminated with the ambient smoke or fine dusts, the percentage, at which the light receiving surface of the receiver 2 is contaminated, is enlarged than that of the receiver 3 due to the difference in the length of the hood 9.
