Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the structure of a gas turbine and enable operation of the gas turbine at high reliability by operating a rotary phase modifier without using a clutch for the phase modifier and reducing the windage loss occurred at a low pressure turbine when operating the phase modifier.
CONSTITUTION: In order to operate a phase modifier, a start button on a control panel is first depressed to start a gas turbine sequentially. After the starting motor is rotated to reach its rated speed, a generator 10 is synchronously operated. After the synchronous operation, fuel supply from a fuel nozzle 17 is stopped, and the generator 10 rotates together with a low pressure turbine 7 directly coupled to a load coupling 18 by its self-motorizing operation and then enters its shift modifier in operation. In order to reduce the windage loss occurred at the turbine 7, cooling air 21 is extracted from a compressor 5. When the cooling air 21 is not obtained by the compressor 5, a fan 23 is driven to obtain the cooling air 21.
