Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an iso(thio)cyanate industrially advantageously, by converting an N-substituted (thio)carbamate into a lithio or magnesio compound, which is reacted with carbon disulfide or sulfur dioxide under mild conditions.
CONSTITUTION: (A) An N-substituted (thio)carbamate is converted into a lithio or magnesio compound with (B) butyl lithium or ethylmagnesium bromide, and the reaction product is reacted with (C) carbon disulfide or sulfur dioxide at room temperature , and decomposed to form an iso(thio)cyanate as shown by the reaction formula: (R1 and R2 are hydrocarbon groups; X is sulfur or oxygen atom; M is lithium or RMg; R is organic or inorganic residue; n is 1 or 2).
