Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a repellent of cockroaches, mosquitoes, flies etc., which is non- toxic and odorless and easy to be handled, by extracting the effective components from ground onion and orange peel with an alcohol, and adding boric acid, an antiseptic, a perfume, etc. to the extract.
CONSTITUTION: Onions and organge peel (e.g. oranges, lemons) are finely ground, extracted with an alcohol e.g. methyl or ethyl alcohol, and optionally added with boric acid, an antiseptic and a perfume to give the title agent. The repellent obtained is less toxic and less stinking compared with the conventional insecticides for cockroaches, and can be easily handled. An aqueous alcohol solution (1:1) can be used for the extraction. The extracted stimulous components are e.g. propylallyl disulfide, allyl sulfide, limonene, etc. The repellent is applied, e.g. by means of coating, spraing with a hand sprayer, etc.
