Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to electrolyze in high current density without damaging the anode, by making iron ion of a proper quantity exist in the electrolyte, in case the steel wire rod to which scale breaking treatment has been performed is subject to electrolytic descaling by the direct electrification system.
CONSTITUTION: The scale which has been stuck on the surface of a wire rod can be removed by electrolyzing the steel wire rod which provides bending and dilation repeatedly, to which mechanical scale breaking treatment has been performed, by use of the electrolyte consisting of water soluble neutral salt of a metal having a larger ionization tendency than hydrogen. In this case, by adding Fe2+ in the electrolyte or furthermore Fe3+ as occasion demands, the anode is not damaged even in case of high current density exceeding 500A/dm2. For instance, in case chloride of alkaline metal or sulfate in 1W30% solution is used, FeCl2 or FeSO4 is added by 0.2%W saturation, and furthermore FeCl3 or Fe2(SO4)3 is added by 0.1%W saturation as occasion demands.
