Abstract

PURPOSE: To furl rigid sails around the outer periphery of a mast so that these sails encircle the mast thereby to simplify the operation and mechanism.
CONSTITUTION: A first rigid sail 2a formed by spreading a metal plate, a resin, a cloth or the like over a stationary frame is fixed to mast 1, and, at the same time, second and third rigid sails 2b and 2c are pivotally connected to both sides of a first rigid sail 2a, the mast 1 and second and third rigid sails 2b and 2c being connected by means of hydraulic cylindres 5 and 6. By this organization, when the hydraulic cylinders 5 and 6 are stretched, second and third rigid sails 2a and 2b are unfurled to constitute a sheet of rigid sail together with the first rigid sail 2a, and when hydraulic cylinders 5 and 6 are contracted, second and third rigid sails 2b and 2c rotate to the mast 1 side, and first through third rigid sails 2a through 2c are housed in a triangular shape and furled so that they encircle the outer periphery of the mast 1.
