Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the productivity of hardening process for various pins without causing warpage, soft spot and quenching crack, by changing the feed-forward rotational speed of many hourglass type pinch-rollers which are holding the heated pins.
CONSTITUTION: The roller line-up 8, 8", 8', pushes the pin 50 against the roller line-up 9, 9", 9', utilizing the spring elasticity, and guides the pin 50 down into the basin water so as to fix the pin 50 with its center coincident with the center of the ring pipe 27. Water is injected into the basin water from the ring pipe 27, and the pin 50 is fed successively into the roller line-up 9. The pin 50 is sent forward being rotated by the pinch-roller configurated by hourglass type rollers 8, 9, crossing each other. Hereupon, the feed-forward rotational speed in the section A is made faster than that in the section B. The high injection pressure and large quantity of cooling water are set in the first section C for quenching the pin 50; and the low injection pressure and small quantity are set in the section D for cooling the pin 50 slowly. According to this method, the continuous hardening of the pin 50 is possible without causing the quenching crach and quenching strains.
