Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an arrangement for mechanical seal, in which a contact member is fitted into a conical hole formed in the surface of a shaft by means of a push member, by a force varied with the position of a push screw which is thereaded into a stopper ring from its outside, whereby it is enabled to fit a mechanical seal with ease and accuracy and to increase torque transmitting force of the turning shaft.
CONSTITUTION: Hole 10 is formed radially in stopper ring 4, and a ball 11 is put on the bottom of hole 10. Further, a spring 13 is interposed between the ball 11 and a push screw 12 with push rod which is threaded into stopper ring 4 from the ouside thereof, so as to urge ball 11 consistently onto the surface of turning shaft 5. Further, at proper portions of the turning shaft 5, an appropriate number of conical holes 5a are formed with slight axial displacement from each other. With such an arrangement, positioning of stopper ring 4 and adjustment for the contact force acted at the sealing surface S of rotatable ring 6 can be attained by urging ball 11 selectively into one of the conical holes 5a.
