Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of heat trahsfer efficiency of a heat exchanger due to the deposition of active fine particles, by vepor-phase polymerization of an olefin in the presence of a readily condensable inert gas condensed on the cooling surface of the external vapor-phase circulation system.
CONSTITUTION: An olefin is polymerized in the vapor phase in the presence of a catalyst system of an organoaluminum compound, which is liquefiable under the cooling conditions of a cooling zone in the fluidized bed reaction zone, as a cocatalyst. In the reaction zone, (A) an inert hydrocarbon, e.g. propane or hexane, having carbon atoms 1W4 more than the olefin, is present in a vapor state, and liquefied together with the organoaluminum compound in cooling the vapor phase in the reaction zone with the cooling zone of the external circulation system. The liquefied condensate is partly or wholly vaporized and returned to the reaction zone.
