Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the preservation efficiency of food in a store house, by performing the removal of oxygen in the house by the electrochemical oxygen-removing device.
CONSTITUTION: Food to be preserved is put into an arbitrary chamber selected from the chambers 15a, 15b, 15c... of a food store house 15; the chamber is closed with a door 16; a valve connecting said chamber with an oxygen-removing device is opened while closing the other valves; and a DC-generator 19 is energized to drive a fan 20 and to operate the oxygen removing device 17. The oxygen removing device is a fuel cell comprising a cathode (oxygen electrode) which consumes oxygen by the electrolytic reduction, and an anode (Ni electrode) generating oxygen, and using 20% KOH solution as electrolyte. The gas from which oxygen is to be removed is introduced into the electrolytic cell through spacers 11a, 11b, etc., and the oxygen generated at the anode is discharged through an oxygen outlet 14 to outer atmosphere.
