Abstract
PURPOSE:To accurately detect the flaw of a can body by disposing a photodetector which does not receive the normally reflected light from the outer surface of the can body having no vertical flaw and receives the normally reflected light partially from flaw on the outer surface at the position illuminated by slit light rays. CONSTITUTION:A can body 10' is first mounted on a can body supporting cylinder 12, and the air in the can body is evacuated from an air inlet hole 13 to make the bottom 15 of the can body contact with the end surface 16 of the cylinder 12 and to fix the can body to the cylinder 12. When this operation of the can body is completed, the cylinder 12 is rotated by one revolution. The slit light rays 27 always projected from a light illuminator 21 are illuminated over the entire periphery of the central portion of the outer surface of the can body 10' mounted on the cylinder 12. At this time the normally reflected light from the curved surface of normal radius of curvature of the reflected light from the can body does not illuminate the photodetector 31, but illuminates the photodetector 31 from the can body having vertical flaw.
