Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the falling-off or the injury of seal elements as well as to reduce the distortion of the seal elements by restraining the thermal expansion of hard solder for metal brazing.
CONSTITUTION: In this mechanical seal, fluid is checked in the discharge in the meeting face S of relatively rotating faces not in parallel with the axis. Here, annular sealing elements 8 and 14 constructing this meeting face S are brazed to mother rings 4 and 13 by a proper hard solder for metal brazing. In backsides of these brazed parts 9 and 15, annular grooves 11 and 17 are provided. Fluid is introduced into these grooves 11 and 17. By this fluid, groove walls 12 and 18 constructed by mother rings 4 and 13 are cooled for cooling the brazed part 9 and 15 through these groove walls 12 and 18. This construction serves to reduce the thermal expansion of the brazed parts. Consequently, the distortion of the sealing element S is reduced for preventing the cracking and the falling-off of the sealing element S.
