PURPOSE:To prevent the freezing of a three-phase induction motor, by heat generating a stator and a rotor by connecting the stator winding to a single-phase power source during the time when the motor is suspended. CONSTITUTION:The stator winding 6 of a submersion type three-phase induction motor for driving a pump is detached from a three-phase power source 17 by means of a three-phase switch 16, a conduction appliance is stopped, a three-phase switch 18 connected to the stator winding 6 is closed and the stator winding is connected to a single-phase power source 20 through a switch 19. When a contact temperature 13 becomes lower than the set point, the switch 19 is closed, single-phase currents are let flow through the stator winding 6, and a rotor generates heat without revolution, thus preventing the freezing of the water of a motor case and a cooler. When the temperature of water rises and the contact temperature 13 exceeds fixed value, the switch 19 is opened, and the generation of heat is discontinued. Thus, the freezing of the motor can be obviated without using a heating device.
