Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve engine performance by inserting an intake and exhaust valve slidably up and down on one side of the cylinder of a cylinder block and forming valve ports which are opened and closed by said intake and exhaust valve, in the intake and exhaust passages of a cylinder head.
CONSTITUTION: At one end of the cylinder 5 of a cylinder 1, the valve and rod 10 of an intake-exhaust valve Vex is inserted slidably up and down into a valve guiding hole 9 which is drilled aslant so that the upper end becomes close to a cylinder 5 and the valve body 11 of the valve rod 10 faces to the inside of a combustion chamber 6 so as to open and close a valve port 15, and is pushed onto a valve seat 16 by he springy repulsive force of a valve spring 19. When the cam-shaft 20 linked with a crank shaft revolves, the intake-exhaust valve Vex is brought into the opening and closing operation in a fixed timing through a rocker arm 23, and new gas is inhaled into the combustion chamber and combustion gas is discharged into an exhaust passage 7. Thus, having the intake-exhaust valve close to the cylinder, intake-exhaust efficiency and compression ratio can be increased, and combustion efficiency can be improved, irrespective of a side-valve type engine.
