Abstract

PURPOSE: To automatically measure the arc time and wear of electrodes at switching operation, by receiving the arc light produced between the fixed and moving electrodes and comparing the arc time and set reference arc time by photo detection.
CONSTITUTION: The switching unit consists of the enclosed grounded metal vessel 1, fixed electrode 2, and moving electrode 3 removable with the electrode 2, and the arc produced between the electrodes 2 and 3 at switching operation is received by light with the photo electric element 4 fast in response speed provided with the vessel 1. The photo detection signal according to the arc time of the element 4 is rejected for the noise due to colona discharge at the comparator 6, and the modulation circuit 8, modulates high frequency pulse from the high frequency pulse oscillator 7, the number of high frequency pulses corresponding to the arc time is counted at the counter circuit 9 and it is compared with the dangerous arc time being the reference set at the comparison circuit 13. Further, when the arc time is more than dangerous arc time, alarm is produced with the comparison output of the circuit 13 and the arc time more than a given time and the wear of the electrode more than a given number can automatically be measured.
