Abstract

PURPOSE: When coenzyme Q is extracted from a substance containing the same with a solvent, the combination of a hydrophilic solvent and an adsorbent permits the high efficient extraction with a reduced amount of the solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Coenzyme Q existing in cells of microorganisms or tissues of animals or plants is extracted with a combination of a hydrophylic solvent as methanol or acetone and an adsorbent as activated carbon or synthetic adsorbent of styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer. The coenzyme Q is adsorbed on the adsorbent and separated from the starting material by solvent extraction or sieving and eluted from the adsorbent using a solvent as lower alcohol.
