Abstract

PURPOSE: The title composition capable of preventing harmful underwater organisms from attaching to ships and underwater structures, prepared by incorporating an organotin compound and zinc powder with an organic resin vehicle forming dried films at normal temperature.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 2W80wt%, preferably 4W20wt%, of an organotin compound, e.g. triphenyltin hydroxide, acetate, or fumarate, and (B) 20W80wt%, preferably 30W75wt%, of zinc powder are incorporated with (C) an organic resin vehicle, e.g. an epoxy ester or nonoily polyester resin, which forms dried films at normal temperature, to give the objective composition. The composition applied to ships and underwater structures consisting mainly of a light metal, e.g. Al or its alloy, not only exhibits improved antifouling effects but also corrosion inhibitory effects due to the synergism of (A) and (B).
