Abstract

PURPOSE: Title resin that is composed of a specific styrene-methyl methacrylate copolymer and fiberglass, thus having high mechanical strength, durability, hardness, heat, weathering and chemical resistance.
CONSTITUTION: (A) a compolymer consisting of 45W70, preferably 55W65wt% of styrene and 55W30, preferably 45W35wt% of methyl methacrylate is incorporated with (B) fiberglass of 1.54W1.56 refractive index. In the polymerization of the copolymer A, t-butylperoxide as the polymerization initiator, a straight-chain alkyl mercaptan as the chain transfer are preferably used because the remaining monomers in the produced copolymer can be made less than 0.6wt%. The fiberglass as component B is preferably chopped strands of 0.005W30mm length and 5W50 micron diameter, whose surface is preferably finished.
USE: Window, house for agri- and forticulture. parts of electric appliances, parts of cars and various kinds of housing.
