Abstract
PURPOSE: Reduction of continuously hexavalent chromium in contaminated water to insoluble state by mixing inorganic reducing agent, as treating agent, such as ferrous sulfate, etc. with gypsum and water to solidify and mold, and passing the contaminated water through packed pits.
CONSTITUTION: An inorganic reducing agent such as ferrous sulfate, sodium sulfite, sodium bisulfite, etc. is mixed with gypsum and water in a mixing ratio of the reducing agent to the gypsum of 50:50 to 90:10 and in a amount of 40 parts by weight of water per 50 parts by weight of gypsum. If necessary, a resin emulsion such as petroleum resin, rosin, etc., bitumen emulsion such as asphalt, tar, etc. and natural or synthetic rubber latex are mixed in a amoumt of 10% by weight of each based on the combined weight of the reducing agent and gypsum. The resulting mixture is placed into a mold such as a container and released from the mold. The resulting molded article is crushed to form masses weighing 1W10kg. Baskets are filled with the obtained treating agent and placed in a pit or pits arranged in waterway to use. The water contaminated by hexavalent chromium flowing out from disposal place of chromium slag is everlastingly treated to reduce the chromium.
