Abstract

PURPOSE: To oxidize wholly high concentrated sulfur ion solution without depositing free sulfur by heating the solution to above 70°C in the addition of NaClO to reduce COD.
CONSTITUTION: Waste liquid having a high sulfur ion such as S2- content and high COD load resulting from stress corrosion crack test of sulfide of steel material, is heated to above 70°C. NaClO is added to the liquid until oxidation-reduction potential of sulfur ion reach -300+200mV. The addition is continued until the solution changes its color into transparent light yellowish green to colorless by observation or until absorbance reachs a predetermined value at a specified wave length. Then, the pH is adjusted with an acid such as sulfuric acid and the liquid is discharged.
