Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the effects of lublication and cooling of upper sealing frictional surfaces of a vertical pump by dividing an oil chamber, in which a sealing device is provided, into inner and outer chambers with the outer chamber surrounding a small portion of the outer periphery of the sealing device.
CONSTITUTION: All blind plugs 14, 17 and 18 are removed in the upright state of the pump, and then oil is poured up to the level of an oil supply opening 13. Then, the blind plug 14 is closed, and subsequently oil is supplied through an oil supply path 15. At this time, the space in an outer chamber O2 is slightly compressed, while also the oil level in the outer chamber O2 is slightly raised. An inner chamber O1 is filled with oil so that the frictional surface pf an upper stationary seal 7 is immersed. In this state, the pump can be operated by closing the blind plugs 17 and 18. The air space in the outer chamber O2 alleviates the rise of the inner pressure due to expansion of the oil with temperature rise thereof. Thus, even when the oil quantity is reduced, the inner chamber O1 can be immediately replenished with oil through a slinght gap G by the pressure in the air space in the outer chamber O2, so that the oil level in the inner chamber O1 will not be lowered.
