Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate steel quality control by collecting a sound of a discharging molten steel stream hitting on a molten steel bath in a ladle and a frictional sound of the stream passing through the tap hole of a converter when molten steel is discharged from the converter and by detecting sound changes to reduce mixing of slag. CONSTITUTION:When molten steel 2 is discharged into ladle 5 from converter 1 after blowing, super-directional microphones A are set in the vicinity of the upper edge of ladle 5 and in front of discharging molten steel stream 7 immediately after leaving tap hole 4. Sounds are separately collected and sent to frequency selector 10 through microphone amplifiers 8 and mixer 9 to identify the sounds. The resulting electric signals are fed to display unit 11 and a tilting device controller for converter 1. Judgment of molten steel and slag was dependent upon the perception of a worker. By this method the difference in quantity of motion between molten steel and slag due to the difference in specific gravity is judged according to impact sounds, and appropriate slag cut is enabled to facilitate steel quality control.
