Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the concentration of CO and HC by providing a thermal reactor in such an orientation that the exhaust gases produced from excessively rich and excessively lean air-fuel mixtures cause formation of spiral vortexes from each other.
CONSTITUTION: Excessively rich and excessively lean air-fuel mixtures are formed in respective carburetors 2 and 2' and combusted in the internal combustion engine. The resultant exhaust gas is led to enter through an exhaust port 12 into a thermal reactor 13. The opening of the exhaust port 12 in the thermal reactor 13 are directed such that the exhaust gases produced from the excessively rich and excessively lean air-fuel mixtures, emerging from the exhaust port 12, cause formation of spiral vortexes from each other and are sufficiently mixed. Thus, CO and HC in the exhaust gas is combusted with the residual oxygen in the exhaust gas, so that the concentration of CO and HC is reduced.
