Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a hot molten glass gob with a viscosity suitable for molding by cutting molten glass extruded from the delivery hole of an orifice while disharging molten glass in the orifice through a discharge opening made in the orifice separately from the hole.
CONSTITUTION: Molten glass 11 in spout 10 is agitated with rotating sleeve 16 and homogenized. needle 17 is vertically moved to extrude glass 11 from delivery hole 13 of orifice 12, and glass 11 is cut into gob 15 with cutting edge 14 and dropped onto the mold of a molding machine (not shown). At this time, discharge opening 18 for discharging glass 11 in orifice 12 is made in orifice 12 separately from hole 13 for extruding glass 11 for gob 15 to always discharge an adequate amt. of glass 11 in orifice 12. Opening 18 is pref. equalized to hole 13 in size. This method is also applicable to production of panel and funnel of a TV cathode-ray tube.
