Abstract
PURPOSE: To repair and adjust a stuffing box of a bearing from inside a hull, by fitting a cover wall projected toward the bow to the bearing where a propeller shaft is penetrated and thus keeping a space above the shaft.
CONSTITUTION: An engine 1 is installed in an engine room C and a propeller shaft 2 driven by the engine 1 protrudes below the stern, penetrating through a bearing 3 formed on the rear bottom f. The bearing 3 includes a stern tube 4 in which a stuffing box 5 is fitted as a watertight sealing member. A cover wall 6 is solidly projected to the bow side on the upper rim of the bearing 3 to form an appropriate space 7 among the cover wall 6, propeller shaft 2 and stuffing box 5. The wall 6 has a bulkhead 8 formed as its integral part. d in the figure represents a live well.
