Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a selective permeable membrane which is excellent in membrane performance, heat resistance, orginc solvent resistance, etc., by using an organic polymer having a specific repeating unit.
CONSTITUTION: Polyethersulfone of the formula I, having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5 to 1.2, is used. One hundred wt parts of the polyether sulfone (a) and 30 to 200wt parts of an inorganic swelling agent (b), e.g., a halide, a nitrate, and a sulfate of an alkali (alkaline earth) metal such as lithium chloride, lithium nitrate, magnesium sulfate, etc., are dissolved in a solvent, e.g., N-methyl-2-pyrolidone, etc., to obtaine a solution having a concentration of 5 to 30wt% and a viscosity of 50 to 5000 poise. Then, the solution is coated on a support base, e.g., glass, stainless steel, etc., and then dipped in a coagulant medium, e.g., water, etc., to obtain membrane. The preferred thickness of the membrane is 50 to 400 microns, more preferably 100 to 200 microns.
