Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the recovering rate of oil phase from an oil-water mixture having high oil phase content by adding water base magnetic fluid to oil-water mixed phase and passing oil phase through a filter bed composed of ferromagnetic materials to which magnetic field is applied.
CONSTITUTION: Waste liquid having high oil phase content in a reservoir 1 is supplied through a mixer 2 and a pumps 3 to a first magnetic treating apparatus 4 equipped with a filter bed 6 composed of ferromagnetic filaments to which magnetic field is applied by a solenoid 7. 5W10% by weight of water base magnetic fluid based on the weight of water phase is previously supplied from a reservoir 5 to the mixer 2. Emulsion of oil-water mixture is broken in the apparatus 4. In a first separating tank 8 the oil phase of upper layer is separated and the above magnetic fluid is added to the water phase of lower layer. In a second magnetic treating apparatus the above treatment is repeated. After separating oil phase in a second separating tank 2, water 15 and an acid 16 are added to the water phase in a mixer 13. Magnetic particles present in the magnetic fluid are precipitated in a settling tank 14, and the magnetic particles are recovered in a recovery tank 17 and recycled to use.
