Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An arylamino sulfone of formula I: (R1 is lower alkyl group, etc.; R2 is H, lower alkyl group, etc.; R3 is lower alkyl group, etc.; R4 is morpholino group, etc.).
EXAMPLE: 4-Methoxy-3,5-dimethyl-phenylmorpholino sulfone.
USE: Sedatives having a strong sedatic action, free from motion suppression and little muscular relaxing action.
PROCESS: An arylsulfonyl chloride of formula II and an amine of formula III are subjected to dehydrochlorination in an organic solvent or its mixture with water at room temperature to the boiling point of the solvent to give the objective compound of formula I. The solvent may be inert to the compound of formula II, e.g. a (chlovinated) hydrocarbon. An inorganic base, e.g. NaOH, or an organic base, e.g. triethylamine, may be cited as a catalyst.
