Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a multiplex light source of sufficient performance with a simple construction by overlapping the first light emitting diode which transmits the light of a wave length range longer than its emitting light range on the second light emitting diode of a long wave length range.
CONSTITUTION: A GaAlAs-LED11 whose emitting light wave length is, for example, 0.83μm and which transmits the light of wave lengths longer than said value and a GaInAsP-LED15 of 1.2μm are lapped together forming a light source. Light 19 from the LED11 enters the spherical end 21 of light fibers 20 and is converged and transmitted. Light 22 from the LED15 is little absorbed by and transmitted through the LED11 which emits light of shorter wave lengths than said light, enters the spherical end 21 of the light fibers 20 and is converged and transmitted. In order that the conversion by the end 21 may be performed efficiently, the light emitting parts 14 and 18 of the two LED's must be at nearly equal distances from the end 21, therefore, the two light emitting parts are placed in facing positions.
