Abstract
PURPOSE: To eliminate the disturbing action of sulfur dioxide on ammonia measurement by observing the oxidation end point by the potential difference method or the external indicator while oxidizing sulfur dioxide, which is absorbed in absorption liquid, by hyposodium chlorate.
CONSTITUTION: Platinum electrode 3 and saturating calomel electrode 4 are sunk in absorption liquid 2 where exhaust gas is abosrbed, and stirrer bar 6 which is placed on the bottom of beaker 1 is rotated by magnetic stirrer 7 under a state where these electrodes are connected to potentiometer 5, and cock 8a of burette 8 where hyposodium chlorate of 0.1% is put is operated to drop this hyposodium chlorate into beaker 1 while agitating abosrption liquid in beaker 1. The indication value of potentiometer 5 is lowered according as the addition quantity of hyposodium chlorate is increased. At the oxidation end point, this indication value becomes a fixed value of -500 to -600 milivolt.
