Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a rubber composition with stable adhesion potential, suitable as a covering rubber for steel cords in steel tires, by incorporating a rubber with a required amount of an organic borate.
CONSTITUTION: The objective rubber composition can be obtained by incorporating 100 parts by wt. of a rubber with 0.1W10 (pref. 0.1W5) parts by wt. of an organic borate of formula [R is 1W10C(pref. 1W5C) alkyl] e.g., trimethyl borate, hexyl metaborate. With this rubber composition, degradation of adhesion between steel cord and rubber on curing, caused by water absorption of uncured rubber during the manufacturing of rubber products, can be prevented, thus effecting firm and stabilized bonding.
