Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the catalyst which is not only provided with various conditions to be provided as the water-hydrogen exchange reaction catalyst but also has high activity and long life and is suited for volume production.
CONSTITUTION: The foam composed of hydrophobic material or the foam covered with hydrophobic material is impregnated with the gel type high molecular monomer solution mixed with monomer, crosslinking agent and, depending upon cases, polymerization initiator by an orgainc solvent which dissolves the monomer but does not dissolve the crosslinked polymer formed as a diluent and both are polymerized on the spot. On this is carried the metal catalyst of Group 8 of the periodic law table. The most desirable gel type high polymer as the carrier of the catalyst of this invention may be obtained when styrene is used as the monomer using the gel type high polymer, divinyl benzene as the crosslinking agent and amyl alcohol as the diluent.
