Abstract

PURPOSE:To simply control the heating for the edge of the matallic piece, by electrically detecting the amount of walk of the metallic piece and by controlling the voltage of the inductor, in case of induction heating for the edge of the metallic piece being passed between the inductors facing each other. CONSTITUTION:The edges of the metallic piece 2 are passed between the inductors 3a, 3b, facing each other, in order to prevent the temperature drop at the edge of the metallic piece being hot rolled. Hereupon, the current flowing through inductors 3a, 3b, is detected by the shunt 7, and the voltage being supplied to the inductors 3a, 3b, is controlled through the controller 8 and the inverter 5. Hereby, even if some walk is caused in the metallic piece 2, the current flowing through the inductors 3a, 3b, is always kept constant, and the edge of the metallic piece 2 is heated to required temperatures. According to this method, the defects like as the edge cracks, the edge waves, etc., due to the temperature drop at the edge of the matallic piece while the hot rolling pass can be efficiently prevented. Since the amount of walk of the metallic piece is electrically detected in this method, the mechanism simpler than the conventional method can improve the efficiency.
