Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain brass sintered parts undergoing little dimensional change by adding graphite fine powder to high zinc brass powder together with alkali metal salts followed by sintering.
CONSTITUTION: To powder of high zinc brass such as 6-4 barss (Cu60%, Zn40%) are added 2W8wt% of graphite fine powder and alkali metal salts, e.g. 0.1% of lithium carbonate followed by heating to about 650°C, annealing, crushing, molding and sintering in an atmosphere of decomposed ammonia at 780°C. The resulting sintered parts undergo very little dimensional change.
