Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the ill effect of offset abrasion by detecting lengthes of radial gaps between a bearing and a rotor by a detector equipped on the bearing end of a bearing device for informing of the excess of offset-abrasion when the lengthes are over a permissible level.
CONSTITUTION: In a bearing device to support a rotor 1 by a bearing main body 2 equipped on a bearing base 4, non-contacting gap sensors 5 and 5' are provided as detectors at the end of the bearing main body 2. For example, detected outputs from these sensors 5 and 5' are respectively adapted to correspond to the gap legthes L and L', and input into a signal processor 6. Here, the difference between detected outputs from sensors 5 and 5' is taken to be compared with a reference set point, and if the absolute value of the difference is over the reference set point, the compared output is used to operate an informing device 8 through a driving device 7. In this construction, even a slight offset-abrasion can be detected for preventing the ill effect given by the offset-abrasion previously.
