Abstract

PURPOSE:For highly reliable, cost reduced colorimeter, a transparent body can be made free to be inserted in or extracted from sample liquid. CONSTITUTION:Sample cell 14 containing measuring liquid is located between a light source 11 and a photoreceptor 12. Transparent body 18 having a given length in the direction of photoaxis can be made free to move in and from the sample liquid. The light source 11 is turned on, and the transparent body 18 is moved up and down. This produces two states, one with the transparent body 18 being present, the other with liquid instead of the transparent body 18. The difference between two states, or the difference of absorbance between sample and the transparent body 18 corresponding its length is detected by the photorecepter 12. Such signal is more easy to be treated than conventional colorimeter where sample liquid must be changed in length, and results in simplified measuring instrument.
