Abstract

PURPOSE:To cool the cast billet while peeling off the powder film from the billet surface in order to prevent the generation of longitudinal cracks, by arranging the gas-liquid mix jetter near both sides of the cast billet being withdrawn downward from the mold. CONSTITUTION:The gas-liquid mix jetters 6 are installed near both sides 1a, 1b, of the cast billet 1 being traveling among plural sets of suspension rollers 5 in the region less than 4m below the mold; and the jet stream 7 of gas-liquid mix is jetted parallelly to the suspension rolls 5 and transversely in respect of the cast billet 1. The flow rate and pressure of the air and water to be supplied to the gas-liquid mix jetter 6 are controlled correspondingly to the casting condition. Hereby, the powder film sticking on the surface of billet 1 is peeled off and removed away, so that the billet 1 is uniformly cooled.
