Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect and segment accurately character information in a short time on the basis of count values obtained by counting the width, height and interval of a block forming a character according to scan clocks.
CONSTITUTION: Character scan signals from scanning photoelectric conversion part 1 are stored in pattern register 2 for pattern recognition and also applied to horizontal projection register 4 where signals circulate at every time of a scan on a vertical line. Register 4 memorizes black and white block signals of each scan by summing up. Counter 5 counts a period when a black block signal of each vertical scan resides. On receiving a signal from conversion part 1 , OR circuit 6 and flip-flop 7 form a vertical projection image in register 8. Horizontal and vertical projection images in registers 4 and 8 are coded into the black block width and black block interval by a mathod not shown in the figure. The date processing part extracts a character block on the basis of a string of those codes.
