Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to attach a position detector with such a simple operation as to adjust and attache only a sensor by forming a detecting portion of an article to be detected, which provides a standard position of a crankshaft or the like of the engine, into a recessed shape and by using the sensor for detecting the recess.
CONSTITUTION: A rotating disc 4 of a magnetic material is attached to a shaft of rotation and is formed with a recess 4a. This recess 4a is detected by a sensor 10. In this sensor 10, there is arranged a magnetically varying element 11 in the vicinity a point, where the magnetic flux of the cylindrical permanent magnet 5 is at a zero level. As a result, if the disc 4 rotates to approach the recess 4a, the zero point of the magnetic flux generated by the magnetic field of the magnet 5 is so varied that the magnetic field is accordingly varied, and this variation appears as the variation in the resistance of the element 11 so that the voltage in the input terminal 121 is varied. This variation is then detected to generate a position detecting signal. Thus, the sensor 10 can be attached by the simple operation without moving the article to be detected.
